Matrix Asset Management is unveiling a New Europe UCITS fund in the second quarter for hedge fund manager David Thornton.
The long/short fund will be a UCITS III version of Thornton's Cayman-domiciled New Europe hedge fund, which mainly focuses on Russia, Poland, the Czech Republic, Austria, Greece and Turkey, Matrix has confirmed the fund will invest in Russia, among other countries, and is likely to be domiciled in Dublin. Thornton joined Matrix in June 2006 to manage the New Europe hedge fund. He previously spent 17 years at Henderson Global Investors as director and head of UK institutional equities.
