Best fund performers 2019: Tech, gold and UK SMID-cap vehicles shine

Allianz China A-shares was the best performing Investment Association-registered fund across 2019 having outdone the thematic technology and UK small- and mid-cap funds dominating the year’s return charts.

The year's 20 top performing funds included eight UK funds primarily with a SMID-cap-focus, four of which are managed by Aberdeen Standard Investments. The funds were buoyed by a rally in the market segment, which had remained unloved by investors in the years since the Brexit referendum. UK equities: The 2020 outlook for this year's worst-performing stockmarket ASI UK Smaller Companies was the best performing of these with a return of 46.2%, placing it fourth overall, with the firm's UK Impact Employment Opportunities Equity and UK Mid Cap Equity returning 40.6% and 39.6% each respec...
