The Year of the Rat brings with it associations of wealth and prosperity, but also represents the beginning of a new day.

With a Phase One trade deal agreed and the title of ‘currency manipulator' removed, does 2020 mark a new dawn in China? The merits of the Phase One deal has divided opinion over whether it truly marks the beginning of the end for the US-China trade war, but the consensus is that it was expected. "Generally, the agreement was well flagged in advance and the expectations of what would be included in the deal meant that the actual signing of the trade deal was a bit of a non-event," said Adrian Lowcock, head of personal investing at Willis Owen.
