Artemis' Tim Steer believes some UK consumer and retail stocks are set to grow despite such volatility.
Given inflationary pressures and the ongoing struggle with government finances, it would not be surprising if the rate of economic recovery went into a lay-by. The market's performance is a bit like Dr Johnson's comment about a dog walking on its hind legs: you marvel not so much that it is done well, but that it is done at all. That said, until recently the action has been with the UK's overseas earners. Stocks like Weir Group, Croda and Kentz have served their investors well.
