Australia's election of a pro-business prime minister, Tony Abbott, has strengthened the case for investing in this mineral-rich nation, says Newton Asian Income manager Caroline Keen.

We have been optimistic on Australia’s outlook for some time and we feel that the case has only strengthened recently with the election out of the way. The electorate no longer faces the uncertainty of a minority government, as it has over the past three years. Not only this, but from our meetings with company management teams across industries, we think new prime minister Tony Abbott’s coalition will provide a more pro-business feel to the economy, or at least less of a burden to the corporate sector.
