During the summer, the release of data indicating that Europe might see positive GDP growth this year (possibly as much as 0.5%) prompted a great deal of excitement. In contrast, a far stronger GDP reading from Japan – and its highest inflation figure for five years – was greeted with a shrug of indifference.
