Jonathan Pines, manager of the Hermes Asia ex Japan Equity fund, has named five stocks that helped him beat competitors in his peer group last year.
Asian markets has a tough time in 2013 and an even tougher start to the new year. Over last year, the MSCI Asia Pacific ex Japan index is up just 3.7%, and year to 31 January it is down 5%. However, Pines’ fund managed to deliver a double digit return last year, beating all its direct competitors. Over one year to 31 January, the fund returned 14.1%, according to Morningstar, versus the IMA Asia Pacific ex Japan sector average loss of 7.6% over the period.
