Advocates of passive investing often point to the fact the majority of active funds underperform their benchmarks.
This has been particularly evident as global managers have attempted to outperform the MSCI World and FTSE World indices in recent years, with the vast majority falling short over three- and five-year periods. One of the reasons for the lack of standout performers in the global sectors is the lack of high-conviction managers who are genuinely benchmark agnostic.
