Asset management giants BlackRock and J. P. Morgan have made the list of top performing investment trusts for 2016 but which other trusts have stood out over the last 12 months?

Though the last 12 months only saw four new issues, the year has been a busy one for the investment trust industry as macro headwinds encouraged discount volatility and the sector's total assets were boosted due to the fall in sterling and large overseas exposure. There have been some trusts in particular that have had an especially successful year thanks to heightened performance, a rise in AUM, change in structure and/or management or their theme coming (back) into favour.
