The US market has been a huge growth area for ETFs and index funds, with falling fees enabling investors to get exposure at a very low cost. More recently, a number of new products targeting different parts of the market have been launched in the UK. US equity markets have performed particularly strongly over the past five years (to 31 July), with the S&P 500 index rising 136.6% compared to an 83.9% gain for the MSCI World ex US index.
