Over half of the participants in Investment Week's Twitter poll believe the FTSE 100 will hit 8,000 points before the end of 2018, but a quarter said investors will be waiting a lot longer before the barrier is broken.
Last week, investors speculated the FTSE 100 was racing towards the 8,000 mark from lows of 6,888 on 26 March as sterling has begun to depreciate, rate hikes seem less imminent and the oil price has crept higher. The FTSE 100 closed at 7,785 points on 23 May after reaching a fresh record high of 7,896.7 points on 22 May.
