Emerging markets have been hard hit so far this year after a strong 2017, with the MSCI Emerging Markets index down 8.7% year-to-date to 5 October in sterling terms and 8.3% since 8 August alone, according to FE. The average fund in the Investment Association's Global Emerging Markets sector has dropped 10.6% on average year-to-date, although returns range from falls of 0.9% to 22% over the period (see tables below).
