Why are so many pension wrappers calling themselves Sipps when clearly they are a long way from allowing all of the investments that an individual who truly wants to self invest could choose from?
There has been a lot of focus on Sipps. The product, and the operator of Sipps, have come under close scrutiny by the FSA, carrying out reviews from an appropriateness of transfers test, to how small Sipp operators are conducting the administration of the product. The acronym Sipp is widely used and just about any pension wrapper is today called a Sipp despite the fact many of these products restrict what investments can be bought within their Sipp. To me, this contradicts the whole meaning of self invested personal pension.
