Why US managers are not predicting recession

Almost all of the managers interviewed in this review had a relatively positive view on the outlook for US equities, with none expecting a return to recessionary conditions or a ‘double-dip'.

US growth is widely expected to progress at below trend levels for an extended period of time, but recent market falls have resulted in significant opportunities to buy high quality and higher growth names at attractive valuations. The market sell-off has been largely indiscriminate and analysis shows high levels of intra-sector correlation. While this environment has not resulted in good returns for fundamental stockpicking, it does provide attractive entry points and potential for strong future performance.
