Henry Thornton may not be the most prominent Asian fund manager on intermediaries' buy-lists, but his five year performance figures match up to a number of his ‘star manager' peers.
Over the past five years, Thornton’s £18.4m BDT Invest Oriental Focus fund has surged to the top quartile of its peer group, the offshore Asia Pacific ex Japan sector. The Dublin-domiciled vehicle has returned 21.1% over the past five years, beating the 7.9% sector average, according to FE. One long-term driver of outperformance is Thornton’s investments into less well-known areas of the Asia Pacific region.
