The energy landscape was transformed last year. First, supply disruption from the Arab Spring sent oil prices soaring - Brent crude reached over $100 a barrel. Then the Japan earthquake and subsequent tsunami led to a nuclear disaster at the Fukushima power plant which resulted in all the country's nuclear power stations closing. These dramatic events have led governments around the world to reconsider their energy policies. Germany announced plans to shut all the country,s nuclear power plants by 2022.
