The Merchants Trust was incorporated in 1889 and celebrates its 125th anniversary this month. Over the years, the trust has experienced all manner of market conditions and many international conflicts, including two world wars. It was established during an ‘investment trust boom’ at the end of the 19th century, and it set out to provide investors with an opportunity to benefit from some of the growth industries of the day.
