The political and regulatory risks are looming large ahead of next year’s UK elections. A series of announcements from the government, the opposition, and regulators have caused share price turbulence in sectors as varied as energy, insurance, housing, and gambling. For example, the government’s latest Budget hit the gambling sector with a surprise 25% tax on gaming machines, while changes to annuity requirements have caused uncertainty for life insurers.
