Brazil's equity markets have surged ahead this year as investors hope the upcoming election will usher in reforms similar to those seen in Mexico, explains Will Landers, manager of the BlackRock Latin American investment trust
Emerging equity markets have once again been the subject of investor attention in the last six months. Latin America outperformed emerging Asia and emerging Europe, while Brazilian equities have led the pack. The MSCI Brazil has appreciated over 20% so far this year, well ahead of the 11% return for the MSCI Latin America index. This performance has been down to expectations of change in the upcoming October presidential elections.
