Following the crescendo of the European sovereign debt crisis in 2011, scepticism plagued investors across the continent, leaving the economy in a fragile, lethargic state.

But despite the pessimism of some market observers, European equities managed to outperform other regions in 2015, surviving the Greek debt crisis and plunging commodity prices. With the worst seemingly behind us and given the timely combination of a weaker euro, a falling oil price, a stronger European banking system amid emerging signs of economic recovery, this has cultivated a fertile ground for investor opportunities.
