'UK elections offer little scope for a shock'

Just as the UK embarked on the series of bank holiday-shortened weeks which traditionally take us through into summer, the weather took a distinctly chillier turn for the worse.

In the stockmarket, by contrast, the prospect of a long, tedious summer of range-bound markets appears all too close and real. The prospect of severe dislocation in Europe has been all but eliminated by a presidential victory for Emmanuel Macron in France, following the earlier fading of the extremist threat in the Dutch elections.
