UK domestic stocks are deeply unloved in the eyes of the investment world and investor sentiment towards the UK is now as bad as it was in 2008, when much of the country's banking system was on the verge of collapse.
This appeals to my contrarian instincts and, in some ways, reminds me of how low sentiment towards emerging markets (EMs) had sunk a couple of years ago. EMs have delivered very strong returns since then, illustrating that a low point in sentiment can be a great period to invest in markets. In fact, there are three potential catalysts which I think could lead to a positive reappraisal.
