The dollar and the US government paper have traditionally been safe havens at times of uncertainty and global stress, but Stewart Cowley, manager of the £400m Old Mutual Strategic Bond fund, has called time on both. He has gone negative duration on the US treasury market and is predicting the beginning of the end for the dollar as the world’s reserve currency.
