For the past year, the FTSE 100 has lagged some of the smaller indices in the UK, delivering half the gains seen in the FTSE 250 and lagging the FTSE Small Cap index by more still. This is understandable when you consider how much further smaller companies in the UK sold off in the aftermath of the credit crunch, with their discounts much more appealing to investors than some of the larger caps.
