Henderson Global Investors' head of UK retail Simon Hillenbrand tells Julia Rampen how he plans to expand the group's investment team, where to draw the line with fees, and why buy lists matter.

The shape of Henderson Global Investors has changed dramatically in the past few years. In 2009, it acquired New Star Asset Management and, in 2011, struggling group Gartmore. After swelling its ranks with these acquisitions, the group then implemented a cost-cutting programme which saw it streamline its product offering. The firm’s Sustainable and Responsible Investment team departed in 2011 and, as late as autumn 2013, the firm was merging smaller funds.
