Justin Christofel, portfolio manager and member of BlackRock's multi-asset strategies team, reveals how he made his first investment at the age of just 14 and why the group's team approach helps keep fund manager emotions in check.

Long before Justin Christofel started managing client money in BlackRock's multi-asset team, his attention was firmly on managing his own. It was at the age of 14 (by then a keen follower of the stockmarket) that he invested in his first mutual fund.  His interest in finance continued at Yale University, where he studied maths and was a member of the college investment club as well.  Yet despite his love of stockmarkets, a need to live closer to home saw him shun fund management for a full-time job at food manufacturer General Mills when he graduated.
