Taking a direct approach to job hunting paid off for Sam Ziff when, after reading a book on investment, he messaged the author to tell him he had enjoyed his work and ask for a job.
The book, Simple But Not Easy, highlights the requirement to remain focused and not overcomplicate things in investing. Its author, Oldfield Partners' founder and chairman Richard Oldfield, was impressed by Ziff and offered him a position as an analyst at the value boutique. "I got lucky by being young and keen", Ziff said. This was only Ziff's second job in the finance industry, after spending three years working in M&A at J.P. Morgan since graduating with a degree in economics from the University of Oxford. Is value rotation beginning of a long reversal trend or a false start? ...
