Ex-New Star CIO Whittaker joins forces with Downing

Querns Asset Managers has appointed small-cap specialist Downing as the investment manager of the Monthly Income fund, to work alongside current manager Stephen Whittaker.

The former New Star CIO (pictured) has been joined by Downing’s James Lynch as co-manager of the £14m portfolio, combining Whittaker’s large-cap style with Lynch’s emphasis on smaller companies. Querns Monthly Income is a high-conviction portfolio with 35 holdings and is currently yielding 4.1%. The fund is in the top quartile of the UK Equity Income sector over one and three years to 15 May, according to Morningstar. Whittaker said: “I have always believed I have a talent for spotting new and exciting fund managers, not least in the past the likes of Neil Woodford and Mark Barnett.  ...
