Traders were locked out of taking advantage of market gains as the London Stock Exchange suspended trading due to a technical hitch. The FTSE was suspended this morning following a rush of deals on the back of the US government’s £110bn rescue package for its largest mortgage firms. Yesterday, the government announced it will be taking over Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to improve the outlook for the global financial system.
