Eclectica's Hugh Hendry is shorting insurance companies in his portfolios and has only one banking position, he said last night. Speaking on Sky TV's Jeff Randall Live programme last night after MPs gave other hedge fund managers a grilling at the Treasury Select Commitee yesterday, Hendry said his only banking short was on the US group Northern Trust. Instead he is targeting insurance companies, although he did not name any, which he believes will have problems as the economic crisis unfolds.
