London trading deteriorated on Friday afternoon after the US markets opened sharply lower on news more than half a million American jobs were cut in November. The announcement added to falls among local mining stocks, which are suffering from rapidly falling copper prices. The FTSE100 index was down 1.67% to 4,094.24 by mid-afternoon. Lonmin tumbled 14.11% to 566 as metal prices fell for a seventh consecutive day, followed by rivals Xstrata and BHP Billiton, which lost 10.96% and 8.21% respectively.
