CPI annual inflation rose to 3.1% for March, up from 2.8% in February, according to figures released today from the Office for National Statistics. RPI inflation also rose to 4.8% in March, up from 4.6% in February. Barry Naisbitt, chief economist at Abbey, said the figures revealed CPI inflation is at its highest level since records began in 1997. “Retail price inflation rose to 4.8%, the highest since July 1991.
