Polar Capital’s latest recruits take up their posts this week in preparation for the launch of the firm’s first healthcare vehicle, Healthcare Select Opportunities, on 1 December. Polar hired Daniel Mahoney from Morgan Stanley and Gareth Powell from Axa Framlington earlier this year to run the fund. The fund will be a global long-only vehicle investing predominantly in the biotech and medtech sectors within developed markets, but it may also have exposure to emerging markets, such as the generic drug market in India, said Polar’s sales and marketing director Robert Blaxland.
