In past months the investment community has lost most of its fears concerning the effect of the Millennium Bug and embraced the technology sector with open arms and an open cheque book. Suddenly, it seems any company with dot.com after its name is keenly sought after; and although entrepreneurs and investment bankers are busy creating more such vehicles, they are not so far keeping pace with demand. We would not wish to sound unduly sceptical as regards the vogue for technology; rather we feel it to be justified on fundamentals and not a passing fad. Comparisons with the Dutch tulip mania ...
