Investors who got into the UK market at the Isa sales peak in March 2000 needed to see another rise of more than 30% to get them back to their original starting capital. March 2004 marked the fourth anniversary of the peak, during which investors put £2.4bn into Isas, £711.4m of which went into the UK All Companies sector. The three-year bear market dragged down most portfolios but despite the 30% rally in the All-Share since March 2003, investors still had a long way to go to recoup losses.
