ETF assets grow 11% in 2009

ETF assets have grown by 11% year-to-date, according to Barclays Global Investors' latest ETF Landscape Industry Review.

In the second quarter of 2009, the number of ETFs listed in Europe overtook the number in the US for the first time at 713 compared to 697. The global EFT industry at the end of Q2 comprised 1,707 ETFs with 3,066 listings and assets of $789bn. iShares is the biggest provider with 386 ETFs and assets totalling more than £380bn. State Street Global Investors is second with 104 products and assets of £119bn while Vanguard came third with 40 products and $59.5bn assets.
