GAM has hired from rival Cantillon Capital Management to build its long-only European equities team.
James Wigley joined GAM last week as an investment analyst to work under Niall Gallagher, who manages the €195.4m GAM Star European Equity and €65.2m GAM Star Continental European Equity portfolios, funds previously run by John Bennett. Before working as an investment analyst at Cantillon, which shut its hedge funds in June to focus purely on long-only assets, Wigley worked at a family office's asset management unit and, before that, with Gallagher at Merrill Lynch.
