Market Close: FTSE unchanged as miners weigh on index

The FTSE 100 ended the day largely unchanged, closing down 0.28% or 15.99 points to 5,761.

Miners weighed on the index the whole day as metal prices fell. Kazakhmys dropped 3.17% to £15.27 while Lonmin declined 2.51% to £20.60 and Fresnillo retreated 2.42% to 846p. Meanwhile, non-bank financials and retailers were among the day's winners. Asset manager Man Group was the biggest riser, advancing 2.72% to 272.3p while Legal & General rose 2.41% to 93.5p. Of the retailers, Kingfisher increased 2.71% to 238.8p as Tesco jumped 1.42% to 449p. In Germany, the Dax closed down 0.32%. or 19.86 points to 6,230.
