Gartmore employee fired for 'irregular trading' weeks before Rambourg suspension

Gartmore fired one of its senior traders for breaching rules just weeks before the suspension of star fund manager Guillaume Rambourg.

The Telegraph reports Mark Widowson, who executed trades on behalf of managers including Rambourg and counterpart Roger Guy, was dismissed at the beginning of March for irregular trading activities. Gartmore declined to comment to the Telegraph beyond insisting Widowson's situation was "totally unconnected" with the ongoing internal investigation into Rambourg. The paper says it is unclear whether Widowson is alleged to have broken internal controls or external regulations.
