Morning Markets: FTSE buoyed by strong global markets

The UK index of 100 leading shares was up in early trading, lifted by rises in all the major global markets.

The FTSE rose 36.63 points, or 0.66%, to 5615.07 just after opening. Rolls-Royce Group shares led the rise, up 17.5 points, or 2.96%, to 609.00p. Miner Vedanta Resources was the main drag on the index, dropping 46 points, or 2.03%, to 2215p per share. The major European markets also made a positive early showing. Shares in Paris began with a small overall rise. The leading Cac index began 0.80% higher at 3792.42 points. In Germany the Dax was up 37.17 points to 6313.26 in early trading.
