Baillie Gifford promotes Smith to CIO role

Monks Investment Trust manager Gerald Smith will take over as Baillie Gifford CIO from April 2011.

Smith, who is deputy CIO and head of the group's global opportunities team, replaces replacing James Anderson, who is remaining with the firm. Charles Plowden, joint senior partner, says the move will create more time for Anderson to focus on managing specific client investments. "During James Anderson's tenure as CIO we have made huge improvements to our investment process, particularly in the area of portfolio construction.
