Rathbones' Coombs plans to tap into Chinese growth story via Barings German Growth trust

Rathbones head of multi-asset David Coombs plans to access the Chinese growth story indirectly by doubling his exposure to the Baring German Growth Trust.

He has a 2.3% position in his Strategic Growth Portfolio fund of funds and intends to add to this over the next two months to gain greater China exposure, rather than topping up existing positions in Veritas Asian and First State Asia Pacific. The Barings vehicle invests in Germany exporters, which do much of their business with China. Coombs said China is attractive in the long term, but concerns over a property price bubble lead him to build exposure through in a more diversified way.
