Billionaire investment guru Warren Buffett is to receive the 2010 Medal of Freedom from President Obama in recognition of his philanthropic work.
The Medal of Freedom is the highest civilian honour in the US, and is awarded to individuals who have made considerable contributions to the country’s national interests, to world peace, or to other significant causes. Buffett has pledged all of his shares in Berkshire Hathaway, about 99% of his net worth, to philanthropic foundations. He is a co-founder of The Giving Pledge, an organization which encourages wealthy Americans to devote at least 50% of their net worth to philanthropy.
