Strategic Bond most popular in 2010

The Strategic Bond sector was the most popular with retail investors in 2010 but sales of equity funds also soared to a 10 year high, according to the IMA.

In total, 2010 was the second highest year on record for fund sales, with £23.9bn in net retail sales, just below the record level of 2009 (£25.9bn). Strategic Bond was top of the leader board with total net retail sales of £2.7bn during the year. This was followed by Global Bonds on £2.4bn, marking the highest level on record for the sector and almost three times 2009's total. However, bond funds did not have it all their own way as sales of equity funds in 2010 were the highest in ten years, with a total of £7.5bn net retail sales.
