Tracker funds have seen the highest net retail sales since 2000, totalling £1.2bn last year compared with £406m in 2009, according to the IMA.
Net retail sales of £573m in Q4 last year also represented the highest quarter since Q1 in 2000. Tracker funds under management amounted to £33.5bn at the end of 2010, marking a 20% increase on 2009. Almost half of the 70 tracker funds invest in UK indices, with the FTSE All Share and FTSE 100 dominating. The rest of the funds track a range of equity indices including Europe, Global, Asia Pacific and the US.
