Markets on Wall Street opened higher for the fourth consecutive session as speculation the Federal Reserve is to take more action to stimulate the US economy continued to buoy investors.
Both the S&P 500 and the Dow extended their runs higher, with investors now expecting the Fed to take action next month to boost flagging US growth. The Dow was up 60 points, or 0.5%, at 11,620 shortly after opening, while the S&P 500 gained 12 points, or 1%, to reach 1,225. The rise came after yesterday's minutes from the Federal Open Market Committee's latest meeting showed it had weighed up a number of options to stimulate growth.
