The newly-coined CASSH group of countries - Canada, Australia, Singapore, Switzerland and Hong Kong - could be the next BRICs, according to Russ Koesterich, managing director and chief investment strategist at iShares.

He said this group of smaller countries is distinct as they all exited the financial crisis in a much better position than the eurozone, US or Japan. They are also notable for their strong fiscal situations, low debt levels and growth credentials, he added. “We have seen outperformance from these countries in general and we think this is a multi-year theme. It is not an investment thesis that works for just four or five months but instead we think it has legs,” he said.
