Wall Street follows European markets into red

Wall Street fell on the opening bell, building on losses seen in European markets today as macro fears dampened sentiment.

The Dow fell 1.19% to 12,875 and the S&P was 1.25% lower at 1,361 shortly after trading began. Meanwhile European indices remained under pressure as fears over a financial crisis in the Netherlands weighed on investors. The FTSE 100 was 1.91% down at 5,662 while the EuroStoxx had fallen 2.67% to 2,250 and the Cac 40 was 2.52% lower at 3,108 by 3pm. Poor German manufacturing data had helped drive down indices across Europe in early trading, sending the German Dax down 3.23% at 6,532.
