The publication of John Kay's government-backed review into UK equity markets earlier this week has brought the issue of short-termism back into the spotlight.
In the review Kay warned the culture of short-termism was hurting Britain's economy, echoing previous warnings about the dangers of this approach from a number of the biggest names in the fund management industry. Industry figureheads including Invesco Perpetual's Neil Woodford, Jupiter chief executive Edward Bonham Carter and Alliance Trust head Katherine Garrett-Cox have all expressed concern over the industry's focus on company performance over shorter timescales.
