The implementation of new European Union rules on short-selling disclosures has revealed hedge funds Greenlight Capital and Odey Asset Management hold notable short positions in the UK media sector.
The filings, disclosed by the FSA, show David Einhorn's Greenlight Capital had a net short position equivalent to 4.37% of Daily Mail & General Trust's (DMGT's) share capital as of 1 November. EU rules that came into effect this month require investors to publicly disclose net short positions of more than 0.5% of a company's issued share capital. Investors must also inform regulators of short positions exceeding 0.2% of a company's share capital.
